Remote sensing

Remote sensing is the acquiring of information from a distance. NASA observes Earth and other planetary bodies via remote sensors on satellites and aircraft that detect, and record reflected or emitted energy. Remote sensors, which provide a global perspective and a wealth of data about Earth systems, enable data-informed decision making based on the current and future state of our planet.

LiDAR

LiDAR, or light detection and ranging, is a popular remote sensing method used for measuring the exact distance of an object on the earth’s surface.

LiDAR follows a simple principle — throw laser light at an object on the earth surface and calculate the time it takes to return to the LiDAR source.

Location intelligence

Location intelligence is the insight gained from visualizing and analyzing geospatial data. Layering location-specific data—such as demographics, traffic, environment, economics, and weather—on a smart map or dashboard reveals unique insights.

3D scanning

3D scanning is the process of analyzing a real-world object or environment to collect three-dimensional data of its shape and possibly its appearance (e.g., color). The collected data can then be used to construct digital 3D models.

Digitization

Digitizing in GIS is the process of converting geographic data either from a hardcopy or a scanned image into vector data by tracing the features. During the digitizing process, features from the traced map or image are captured as coordinates in either point, line, or polygon format.

Geo-Referencing

It is the process of aligning satellite imagery or other types of maps with real-world geographic coordinates. In simple words, it involves taking an image of the Earth's surface, and placing it accurately on a map of the same area.

DGPS

Differential GPS (DGPS) is a system in which differences between observed and computed co-ordinates ranges (known as differential corrections) at a particular known point are transmitted to users (GPS receivers at other points) to upgrade the accuracy of the users’ receivers’ position.

GPS

GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, is the only system today able to show you your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, anywhere.
